A friend wants to edit video footage on his laptop but has no firewire port, I got him a firewire pcmcia card but then realised when I came to fit it, it doesn't accept pcmcia cards.
What are my options? I don't suppose I can get a usb > firewire dongle because usb is slower than firewire.

Can't get detailed specifications from that.

I know, but the way you said the manufacturer doesn't list it on their website followed by confused, implied to me that you thought it didn't exist or something.

So in answer to your first question as to what kind of laptop has neither pcmcia or expresscard, an Advent 9315.

It exists but I couldn't find the product page on HP's website...just stores, and none of them had a detailed spec.

Ok mate no worries:)
They are going to take it back as they told the salesman they want to use to to transfer video files from there camcorder when they bought it.
You can purchase a usb to firewire lead but from what I've read they are no use at all. There is another lead that is £65 but isn't proven. At the end of the day they need a firewire port.

Come to think of it, I'm not sure why firewire ports aren't standard. I've got ancient socket A motherboards that have it, and they're not even nforce or anything...I also used a 5 year old PB Easynote that had firewire as well.
