Need For Cable to Soundcard

I have just fitted a DVD writer BenQ DW 1620 to my computer, which has a ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe motherboard with a Soundblaster Audigy 4 sound card fitted and 2 sounblaster stereo speakers.

Is there any need to connect the audio cable from the DVD writer to the sound card or anywhere else? I have not fitted it as the Sony CD ROM, already in my system, does not appear to have an audio connection.

The sound seems fine if I play an audio CD.

Also do I need to link a cable, which comes from my VU unit on the front panel to a connection on the back plate, to my sound card. This back plate connection was linked by a short cable to my sound card back plate when the computer was delivered, but I have disconnected it and cannot remember which terminal on the sound card back plate it was connected to.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Those audio cables are back from when there was no DMA, and playing an audio CD meant using all the processor power. You dont need to use them anymore [unless youre writing this on a 8086 or something]
