Hi guys, have searched and there doesnt appear to be a thread on this yet, so thought i would make one.

Basically this game is now starting to really **** me off. Basically the only was i can get it to run is by enabling Windows 98/ME compatibility mode in Vista (Business 64bit). If i try XP or 2000 mode then it cant find the DVD .

When playing the game, it will basically crap out to the desktop at a random time, either during a race or just after a race. It has only really started happening since completing the 1st area, as before then there didnt seem to be a problem.

The game is on version 1.2 and it wont let me patch it to either 1.3 or 1.4, have tried uninstalling and reinstalling twice with still no joy.

I have read on the web that it may have something to do with multi-processors and the affinity needs to be set in the exe to just one.

Soz for the long post but that basically covers everything, so any help is much appreciated as i am/was really getting in to the game again :(

I may give that a try, however it still shows 1.2 in the top right corner, even though when it runs through the 1.4 patch, it goes through everything ok

Will see if it sorts it, cheers.

And the shutting down to desktop part, when the game is running minimize it and go on task manager/ processors and and then right click carbon exe and then click "set affinity" and untick all the cores except 1

All need for speeds up to carbon have this problem, it likes to just run off 1 core

Hi there, i am gonna try that now i reckon, as i have tried getting the No-CD patch and AVG picks it up as a trojan, lol. Also when i try and copy it into the NFSC directory it cant because the folder is read-only and when i change the top folder to non read only, it sets it back again, lol.

/Edit

Have just had a look and the process was already assigned to CPU 0 so no good there. It is very annoying and cant believe a newish game like this doesnt work properly, considering Need for Speed Underground works fine as well as Diablo 2.

Oh well, looks like i will have to sort out a dual boot with XP to use it with one damn game :(

I had the problem on a single core Pentium M too. The No-CD fixed it.

(you won't be able to go online though)

Are you sure AVG isn't blagging? And for the folder which is read only have you tried turning off that Vista access control thingy?

It is probably AVG being a bit tight with regards to the trojan. I have already turned off the Vista access thing as it got rather annoying after about 1 min asking me whether i wanted to do anything, lol.

I will give the no-cd another try and see where i get to, hope it sorts it as the RX7 i won off the boss is pretty good and want to get my hands on an R34 :D

/Edit once again.

Lol, have tried it again and Vista doesnt let me copy the no-cd exe ANYWHERE, lol. I try and paste it in any directory and it says i dont have permission to do that, however if i try and paste the original exe file into the directory then it is fine . Surely if it was read-only then it would be in effect all the time and not just for this file. I even tried disabling AVG to do it, but it still popped up detecting a trojan in the Microsoft plugin for MS office .

This damn game is more trouble than it is worth, now i think i can remember why i stopped playing it before, and that was on XP
