Need For Speed MW issue

Am having a slight problem with NFSMW having upgraded in the last couple of days. No matter what graphical setting I'm on, the game seems very jerky, which it wasn't at all before. Seeing as the problem seems to be there no matter what graphics setting, I'm wondering whether this is a CPU issue. Current specs are:

Core Duo E660
1GB RAM
x1950 Pro 512 MB

Any ideas?

Thanks for all your help. Switched the affinity to one core, turned off VSync and installed the 1.3 patch. The jerkyness has been much improved, it's just been greatly lessened but it's still there to a very small degree. Anything else it could be? It's totally liveable with but I can't help being a perfectionist
