Need for Speed™ Most Wanted Limited Edition

Here's my impression:

CONS:
- clip a car or the edge of a wall and the entire race is lost
- every crash you get to watch 15 second crash video mid frantic race
- feels like you need a perfect race to win, AI barely gets spiked/cop chased/AI takedown'd
- each race requires around 20 attempts
- your vehicle dictates everyone's speed so don't get too excited about finding an atom
- wins appear completely random, not down to you learning the track or taking the right shortcuts
- only two (very poor) view modes, floaty third person VS too low to see road
- graphics don't seem optimized, high HBAO brings my 4GB card to its knees
- 'store purchase only' cars are everywhere and it's an immediate deflated gamer experience when you find one
- irritating delays everywhere; launching game, restart race, crashes, start new race, race end, car jacking, skip scene leads to another scene... at least it quits fast
- lacking the most memorable/unique component in the original Most Wanted (a story)
- poor choice of name setting unnecessary expectation and research difficulty

PROS:
- graphics are decent
- multiplayer works but rather than humans driving around in the map (The Crew style) you need to join sessions
- controls are great and seem a little more refined but changes so much per vehicle
- finding drivable exotic cars tucked away feels fantastic
- winning a race feels that much better
- mastering a track feels really good, it's just a shame they force you to replay

Above all I think it's fun right now but the cons are going to get really old fast. I'd have been gutted if I'd believed the hype and bought it for $59.99. I can't see myself playing it beyond a few weeks but it's definitely worth £3.

I've really enjoyed turning off the in-game music and playing my own playlist. Something soft and slow like this is incredible with frantic fast gameplay... it almost adds calm to the chaos.

trendlad have you played shift by any chance, I know it's older but from reading steam reviews it's pretty good apparently?

I've pretty much played every single PC arcade racer bar the odd few, NFS Shift being one of them but I have played NFS Shift 2 and loved it!

It's one of the most realistic games I've ever played outside of actual simulators. The helmet cam view (discussed in the last minute of the vid) is RIDICULOUSLY immersive.

They really need for release an Oculus Rift DK2 patch for Shift 2

However, Need for Speed IMO is an Arcade racer. Nothing comes close to Need for Speed 2 SE - The intro, the menu and in game sound tracks, individual car videos and general fun gameplay

You know what... with all it's flaws I'm absolutely loving Most Wanted!

After playing for a few hours my first six points completely vanish. I've seen AI get spiked and taken down and I've also realised that playing the track all the way through regardless of any crashes is the best technique.

I just unlocked the McLaren and goodness me is that a jaw droppingly fun car to drive. I've found that I'd find a fantastic car and think that's the best it can get (i.e. BAC!!) and then you unlock mods and it just keeps getting better but then you find a completely new car which drives even faster with even more control. Love it!!!
