Need for the HB SLI Bridge

Next week I'll be swapping out a pair of 980TI's for a pair of 1080TI's. What I was wondering is should I also have ordered an HB bridge. I intended to use the standard bridge that I already have but from what I read in the description of the HB bridges my new SLI setup wont work without the HB Bridge? or does it still work with some performance restriction?
 
You can use two old bridges, I don't think 1 bridge will work.

But performance will be hit (it was when I had 2 1080s), so you should get a HB Bridge.
 
You just spent about £1400-1800 on cards, spend £30 on a bridge ok? The performance benefit comes in higher resolutions which I assume you're using given that GPU choice.

It won't work with the single bridge either.

In some things it makes no difference using a single or HB bridge but in other things like Witcher 3 it can make a big difference using the HB bridge.:)
