Need free dvd codec for Win Media Player

Hi, a quickie question as I'm at work,

I reinstalled a mates computer but forgot to install the codecs for playing DVDs in windows media players.

Does anyone know a free one he can download at home? - Free please!!

AFAIK there are no free ones which will work with WMP.

If he needs a temp fix you can use the free 30 day demo of the nvidia pure video codec from nvidia.com

Is there any such thing as a free codec? Windows Media or not?

EDIT: Have you looked through any old PC software and the like? Ever bought a motherboard...quite often bundled CD has them on there? You only need something really old, InterVideo old version will still do the trick because I use them a lot.

Got loads of stuff (codecs) and iirc any dvd will play on media player classic (bundled) and maybe wmp. Have used for ages with no problems.

Cue people saying: "no there is no need, just install ffdshow". (ffdshow bundled with k-lite)
