Need gaming rig. How much will I realistically need to spend?

So I'm going to need a complete new setup, desktop, monitor, mouse, keyboard etc.

I've not got a budget as such, but don't really want to spend a lot more for minimal performance benefits.

I'll be playing all performance heavy games and want them to run smoothly on the highest settings.

I had a rough figure in my mind of around 1,200 but I can push on that if needed.

Also I'll consider building it myself if there's significant benefits, but am concerned about the lack of warranty in this.

Would really appreciate any help!

Thanks for the replies guys, going to look into this now.

Couple of questions, do you get no warranty for a self build?

Should I really go for Win 8 (I despise it), is there any performance benefits?

You get warranty on the individual parts but not he system itself.

So if you have a problem you cant just send the system to us, you would have to remove the problem part (so you would have to self diagnose).

Whereas with a pre-built you can send the whole system back and we will do the rest :)

Thank you very much, clears that up =)

Just wondering whether to go for the more expensive GPUs suggested or stick with the lower end.

Also some of those cases I don't like so will pick one meself as well as switch to Windows 7.

I've decided to spend that bit more on GPU and go for the one lee32uk (essential going for his build), the card is around £330, would people say this is the best for the price? Is it offering signficant benefits over the cheaper ones suggested here?

The Gigabyte 290 is now at the same price so I would go for that one.

Also you can get the Corsair RM650W for the same price as the BeQuiet one in my spec.

YOUR BASKET
1 x Gigabyte Radeon R9 290 OC WindForce 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (GV-R929OC-4GD) £329.99
1 x Corsair RM Series RM 650 '80+ Gold' 650W Power Supply (CP-9020054-UK) £79.99
Total : £419.58 (includes shipping : £8.00).

You would also need to choose a different keyboard, as the Gigabyte K3 is out of stock atm.

Already spotted the price on the new card and changed it, have now changed the Power supply over, cheers for the heads up pal!

Many thanks for the feedback Lee, placed the order today with all the changes suggested and taking delivery tomorrow!
