I currently am using the M2N32-SLI Deluxe motherboard with 4 gig of ram (1x4 sticks) and evga 8800 ultra graphics card but was wondering the best way of upgrading to the best card available to play games like the new crysis warhead in full setting mode using vista 64 bit and of course dx10.

At the moment my setup is struggling to play the new games in full setting so have to knock the settings down to near minimal which i hate to see as i thought my system would have handled.

Anyway Guys ...... i was thinking of trying a ATI 4870 X2 card with the motherboard i have but will it take it and will i benefit a great deal ?

Crysis is a very tough game to satisfy. The 4870x2 is imo the best performing card for the money, but I've heard that there are issues with Crysis being able to utilise it to it's full potential. I'd normally recommend it whole heartedly, but for Crysis I'd suggest you do some more research before taking the plunge. I wish I knew more on the subject to help more :(

Gl :)

thanx for the reply, yea i know i need to read more on crysis, i just didn't want my system to be outdated with these new games coming out.

All i need to know now is if the ati 4870 x2 is compatible with Asus M2N32-SLI Deluxe motherboard, just incase i do take the plunge and get the card.

Few choices I'd suggest.

1. Get another 8800 ultra & Sli both of them.

2. Flog the Ultra you have & get 2 8800 GT's & Sli them.

3. As above but get one GTX280.

I would think so, but don't ask me how much. I changed from Nvidia to Ati about 10 months ago (for HTPC reasons) & not looked back.

ok thanx for ya help, i suppose i'll be better with the GTX280 for gaming compatibility even though i would go ATI but not sure what crashes i would suffer from which is something we all hate ey lol

280 works nicely because it is a single gpu and does not rely on sli for its speed. If you could find another cheap ultra, I would probably just sli that with you're current one.

another question ............

was just wondering with the evga 8800 ultra KO edition i have, could i mix another 8800 ultra ...... e.g evga and a asus one SLI together ?

For games like crysis warhead the ATI 4870 X2 is definitely going to be the best choice. Will run fine on that mobo and give you the biggest increase over current card.

ah nice 1 was hoping my mobo was ok for the card, i just might hang on and invest in one in the near future.

The only problem with SLi is going to be the heat generated inside the case.

I think i could manange a bit more heat in the case so longs my games didn't crash lol, the case i'm using is the Thermaltake Armor, i'm sure it would be ok for SLI'ing the cards.

Now my next question ............

What would be faster ... 1 ATI 4870 X2 or SLI 2 8800 Ultra's ?

The former will be faster. But see my earlier comment about Crysis before taking the plunge.

yea i did see ya earlier post and i agree with ya but by the time i do go for the plunge i just hope there with be enough driver updates and game patches for better compatibility.

It won't be for a month or 2 yet when i upgrade which is why i'm asking these questions to help me decide on what step to go.

I really appreciate the help from you guys :p

Since you've specifically mentioned Crysis, I can tell you that my 4870 X2 runs it at 1920x1200, 4xAA, very high settings very nicely.

Was a nice step up for me from a 9800GX2 which died when I stuck AA on.

You won't be running Crysis on full and DX10 with anything at the moment. If I were you I would stick with your Ultra and wait until the next iteration of cards are out.

I hear ya but will have to wait and see what pops ups between now and xmas, knowing my luck the next generation of cards probably won't come out till easter next year lol
