hello all new to this forum but i could really do with some help and advice please.

ok im a bit of a noob when it comes to this sort of stuff but i will put my idea forward then some of you experts can rip into it!

i have a budget of £450 to upgrade but my idea was to use my mother board and cpu and build with them.

these are my specs for board and cpu

Manufacturer : ACER
Product :EG31M
Version :R01-A3
Serial Number : 00000000
Support MP :Yes, 4 CPU(s)
Version MPS : 1.4

kentsfield Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz, 2394 MHz socket 775 LGA

and these are what i want to add

so any help would be much appreciated

One bit of advice, I doubt you have a motherboard manual for your board showing where the front panel connectors go from the case, so take notes where the current PWR switch/HDD LED/RESET switch go, and use this with the new case cabling.

ok thanks for the advice but i hope to get an expert to do the changing over?

another question my QUAD CORE Q6600 do you feel this will be up to standard for the time being with the money i am spending on the new upgrades?

thanks for the help all,i will have to look at this and see how to rearrange it all.

one thing i did notice whilst looking at a review of the case is that the mother board sits high at the top and it said to be careful of the cpu fan size wise because of the top fan on case anybody know if the fan i choose will be a problem or is there a better solution (decent cooler not so space consuming)??

I dont think buying a new mother board at £40, plus DDR3 4GB ram at £35 is as cheap as just buying the DDR2 4GB kit at £60.

The motherboard you looked at only has two ram slots for each type of memory type too.

lets say i can up my budget would it be a better idea?

i wont have this kind of money for a while so looking what may be best in the long term and also taking into consideration that my board has been used for a good 3 years solid?

ok right i pushed my budget to £500 no more (wife will kill me) ive done a few changes and came up with this lot if anybody has the time and the patience(hahaha) have a look for me and see what you think please.

two dvd drives? just use the burner.

the ram is too expensive - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-203-CS&groupid=701&catid=8&subcat=1517

whats the 2TB hdd for? just storage? as its slow for a boot drive to run the pc from.

A win7 bundle will do - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=SW-000-OP

brilliant mate and thats why i came here to ask thank you!

got rid of the rom, added the win7 bundle and changed the memory and totally price comes to £492 and with still keeping the 2TB harddrive :)

I would do it. It's a £15 upcharge, and imo worth it. On another hand, you may as well just get yourself a complete new kit (mob + CPU + RAM), sell your Q6600 which ain't a bad chip, something like a 2500K + P67 setup. Depends when you are doing the actual upgrade and what your final budget will be.

Given that you already have a PSU and maybe a couple of bits and bobs, we could come up with fresh new budget gaming rig for the same money. There are a couple of expensive components in there that can be specced down.

EDIT : forget it. tried and failed :/ Win 7 is getting a big chunk out of the budget for a 2500K.

yeah cheers for that,i did try but as you say with me wanting to upgrad to win7 trying to do a custom rig was impossible with the budget

The Easytune software works fine within windows, I have used it myself.

The Gigabyte board also seems to come with more slots and connectors too.

right as an alternative idea what about doing this but need to keep within that price would this be better than using my Q6600 quad???

You need to know you cant overclock without a P67/Z68 chipset motherboard and a "K" CPU, but looking at the stock speed against AMD chips above, do you need too?

any reason for the graphics card change is the one you put better than the Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 5850 Extreme 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card?

to be totally honest im not clued on overclocking so not to bothered as long as what im getting will be future proof for a few years game wise without the overclocking!
