So I got my 8800 GTS, now on idle its temps are around 65c, way too high!
Plus I can't get the Nvidia control panel to show me my GPU temps on load, what other software is available for me to check out GPU temps on 100% load?

What can I do in order to lower its temps... no OC...

thanks

My monster 7800GTX 512 idled at a very impressive 38C so it will be interesting to see what a GTS would achieve in my case. Will post back when I get some results :)

Mine idles at 65C and goes to 82C under load in a very cold room.

But GPU temps are generally much higher than CPU temps and still be stable, my old 6800NU ran at 103C once for a few weeks without issue.

And from the many reviews I have seen is that a GPU temp of 80C to 90C is quite normal.

Ouch. I knew the 8800s ran hotter than previous Nvidia cards, but I didn't know they were that hot.

It's funny that people who used to drone on endlessly about ATI cards being hot are now dead silent about this and seem to think it's suddenly a non-issue, not trying to start a fanboy fight there at all just making an observation. :)

I think you are mistaken, no one ever complained about the heat of the ATI, they complained about the power consumption.

GPUs have been this hot since the 6800/X800 generation. Its nothing new.

No, I really don't think I am mistaken.

I was involved in such discussions myself.

Yeah, I must be being a fanboy dissing your beloved 8800...

...even though I'm putting serious thought into getting a GTS or GTX myself in the next couple of months...

...that must be it. :o

I was simply making an observation, get it?

What sort of fanboy statement is that? Ugh.

But yes, I am putting serious thoughts into it because I might be able to get a GTX for £275.

Not a fanboy tbh. Just a fanboy of what I have in my pc atm. Weird if you're not proud of your pc.

Someones going to the US then?

Being proud of your PC is one thing, but changing your opinion of someone because of what colour their graphics card is, that's way more weird IMO. ;) :p

Someone I know is in America for a couple of months at university, so I've been browsing US prices. :D £205 for a GTS and £275 for a GTX looks really good to me and I don't think I'll be able to resist.

A couple of months. Meaning he will be back by April? Might be a good idea to make him stay there till R600 comes out.
