ive decided to build myself a gaming machine, so far ive ordered these parts:

mobo: ASUS SKT-AM2 M2N32-SLI DELUXE W/L S/L 2000MT/s

graphics: 256MB XFX 7600GT XXX, PCI-E

cpu: AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ Windsor 2.2GHz 2 x 512KB L2 Cache Socket AM2 Dual Core Processor

i was looking at these memory brands but im unsure about what to order, something for gaming, and maybe abit of overclocking. just need help from choosing from 1 of these 3 that are in my budget :)

OCZ 1GB (2 x 512MB) PC2-6400 Dual Channel Special Ops XTC Series DDR2

or

Corsair 1GB DDR2 XMS2-6400C4 TwinX (2x512MB)

or

GeIL 1GB (2x512MB) PC6400 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2 Dual Channel Kit

hopefully the mobo and graphics card ive ordered will do what i want

The geil, I think, has the best overclocking potential. Even if it doesn't its cheaper than the rest and provides the same performance. If its like their 2gig 6400 kit it is very good ram.

Not at high details when you only have 1GB of RAM it won't.

That depends really. If your computer was somewhat fresh to a degree where you had very little processes running, just Windows processes. Then you played F.E.A.R. SinglePlayer. With a good graphics card and 1GB RAM you should be able to max it out if you ask me.

BF2 requires 2GB RAM to run maxed out. F.E.A.R. I wouldn't have suspected so.

From this link it looks like 2GB helps, it certainly goes some way to stopping a low min FPS at points, but it looks like you'll still get somewhat reasonable FPS with 1GB of ram imo.

Fear is one of the games that requires high amounts of ram though :(.

It does according to that article and I'd agree.

1GB just isn't enough for a gaming system now (@ high details/settings anyway).

ok i decided to buy

GeIL 1GB (2x512MB) PC6400 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2 Dual Channel Kit

could any1 recommend a cpu cooler for my setup, i have a 450watt psu, i believe that will be fine, i dont want to use the stock cpu cooler, any ideas? thanks :)

It doesn't matter how fast your ram is if you don't have enough.

2GB of el cheapo value ram spanks 1 GB assembled on the thighs of virgins with heatsinks in a fashionable colour. :p

I bought the Artic Freezer Pro for my setup and iam very impressed with it,ticks over at about 1000rpm and keeps the CPU at about 25c which isnt bad as the room its in is small and has the hot water tank for the house in. ;)
