Need Help - Audi A3 owners

Hi all, I could do with some advice or help for the resident Audi A3 owners or anyone who can help really.

After a short drive to re-fill the car this evening my warning light for the 'emission control system' is now on.

The very helpful (:o) Manual states that I should take the car to a Audi workshop ASAP. (Can't do this until monday as the local dealer now shuts on a Sunday).

Does anyone know what may be the cause of this (possibly had the issue before?) and also whether its a serious issue or something that will probably wash through without an issue (read not cost a lot). (My wife is now paranoid that the whole car is doomed and will fall apart etc :rolleyes:)

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I have not noticed any change in the way the car behanves (ie performance fuel consumption etc) however as I only literally drove it 1 mile with the light on I can't say for sure.

Thanks for the link, judging from the thread it seems to be either an intermitant fault or something is actually wrong.

I have only had the car 3 months and this will be the 3rd time it has gone back as something is wrong (4th including the fact it needs to go in and have its whole drivers side seal replaced) - at least my local dealer is 5 minutes away and are excellent.

Indeed. The problems with my A3 so far havn't really been major just more annoying niggles but this one has really got her on edge (my wife), she is currently at the stage of 'well if this goes wrong what else could go wrong...' Talk about negative, at the moment it could just be a faulty sensor but the way she is talking is that the car has just exploded.

Oh well I get to car hunt again (:rolleyes: @ self)
 
If the WB02 or NB02 gets a bad reading for some reason it can bring the check engine light on, happened to me on the way home after i picked my car up, take the negative off the battery for 20mins then connect back up see if the light comes back.
 
When sitting stationary - mainly straight after starting up - does the fuel consumption start to fall dramatically?

My 2.0 audi did the same, then produced the same warning light, the result was that it was over fuelling at idle, the error that was produced was fuel to lean in bore 1 or something along those lines.

All you can do is get a fault code reader and see what it has to say, then take it from there.

Bolger after starting up the trip computer states the fuel consumption as 0mpg (which is helpful) so I don't know (It has done this ever since I bought it so I think its un-related).

My wife is taking the car in first thing in the morning tommorow to find out what is wrong. Hopefully it will just be a fault that can be rectified with a simple reset of the ecu or whatever it is that is reset. Unfortunately though this whole issue has tainted an otherwise excellent car (we have had this exact problem before with an astra and that ended up being very expensive to fix so understandably my wife is annoyed / anxious)

Oh well I'm off to look at an octavia vRS today so at least that will keep my mind occupied.
