Just built a pc for my brother. New z68 motherboard, corsair gt ram, corsair hx 850 psu and the h70 corsair cooler and a 2600k. Built went well but fitting the h70 was a pain in the ass. Really struggled to get it in, and even now it feels nice and stuck but the actual part with the paste on does move very slightly if you try? first boot the temps where at 80 degrees in the bios!!!! and the pc keeps cutting out.

Do you guys think the h70/2600k may be faulty? or maybe the cooler is not fit properly? i really need help here guys im lost

Have you attached the power connectors for the pump and the fans?

Do the fans spin and can you hear the pump working?

If the answer to the above questions is yes then it looks like you haven't fitted the block correctly and it's not making proper contact with the CPU.

you need the jaws to lock in, then you tighten the screws (not too much), then it should not budge. plug the pump into a 3 pin chassis fan (CHA_FANx) or directly to a molex (with an adapter), plug the H70 fans into CPU headers. The chassis fan should be on constant 12V (not voltage controlled or controlled by the fan profiles). Plugging into a molex guarantees 12V continuous.

If you didn't put the H70 right, clean up the paste and re-apply.

Ok guys, the 2 fan connectors are plugged into. PWR FAN and CHA FAN. The round thing which i guess is the pump is plugged into the cpu fan. I might have put the pump on too tight? not quite sure, the jaws are locked in place though.

Sounds like you have the pump connected to the CPU_fan header - this is not good. The CPU fan header provides varying voltage to the CPU fan to ensure that the fan isn't spinning at 100% all the time - only when needed. This is great for a CPU fan but really bad for a cooling pump that needs a constant 12V supply.

I would suggest moving the pump connection onto one of the other motherboard fan headers (CHA fan or PWR fan) or ideally connect it directly to the PSU via molex connection and an adapter like this.

So long as the pump does not move at all when you waggle it with your hand then it is tight enough.

well the pump doesnt move no mate. Ok ive just put the pump on the PWR and CHA fan and bother are doing the same. even failing to get to bios half the time mate.

Ok quick update guys. If i keep the fan for the pump plugged into any other fan other than CPU FAN i get cpu fan error and system will restart in 5 secs?? you say not to plug it into there, but seems i have to

There's usually an option in the BIOS to disable the warning about CPU fan error.

You can connect a fan temporarily if you need to so that you can get into the BIOS.

well when its plugged any fan control the temps are still ridiculous and cpu fan error comes up. the motherbard temps seem ridiculously high too. this is cracking me up

Take the block off the CPU and start again.

When you take the block off you'll be able to see if the TIM has spread. If it hasn't you definately didn't have it on correctly.

cant get a pic no sorry, im on an ancient laptop and it cant do much. i dont think i can go through reseating that again, it was too hard. might take it to the compurter shop tomorrow lol

im doing that now mate. pump is installed again and re applying paste now.

No luck temps are still too high. ill take it to the pc shop around the corner today. Ive got my own new parts here too and i also have a h70, i dont even want to try fitting another one. Think ill let the same guy do it. Too tricky for me
