Hellow all,

Wanting to build a new computer, and already pretty sure what i want for "internals".Only choosing a case always seems to be the hardest part of a new build:mad:

So i need help from the "all-knowing"people around these forums.Want a big case, with lots of room and upgradability.First going for air, maybe a bit later for watercooling.

And wondering:In the thread where people show pictures of their rigs i see a LOT of Corsair 800 cases. Are they really that good?

And oh yes:Please NO HAF recs :D

Thanks in advance

It should be the hardest part because correctly selected case outlasts anything you can put into it. If something like that is easy you ain't thinking.

Also wasn't silencing friendliness one of the requirements?

Corsair has strong marketing department&status (like Apple) hence they're shown so much. In todays world sales have very little to do with the actual product but lot to do with the name and hype.
So here's pics of something with about non existent marketing muscle.

But now back to the real life until Sunday evening and for getting stormchasing knowledge tomorrow and shredding some new rear holes to representatives of camera makers for lack of real progress and innovations in Sunday.

Take your pick of one of the Full Tower cases.

I've owned several Lian Li's, even bought the Gf a Lian Li, and I'm really not tempted by anyhting else.

- Second to none build quality
- Good features
- Good stock Fans (not the best, but good)
- Aluminium!
- Can be modded fairly easily to taste as well

oh yes,i need to mention i'm a COMPLETE noob when it comes to modding :)

Problem is:My current rig,my Gf choose the case(A TT Kandalf LCS)and now she want to do the same...All case i've shown her,she doesn't want them(too large, too fugly)and now she wants the Silverstone Raven RV01...Hell,she even found the Lian Li PC71A ugly???I mean:WTF?

Any case made by thermaltake is how i would define ugly, not to mention garbage in terms of quality, an empty beer tin feels more solid.

The Silverstone RV01 is not a bad air cooling case, no good for water cooling though.

Let her choose your case, and you choose what clothes she buys for the next 5 years.

See if she agrees ?

Haha,now here's an idea:D.

No one has info on what case to choose?Have 3 so far:Corsair 800,Silverstone Raven RV01 and Lian Li PC71A?Wich one is best out of these 3?

i would discount the silverstone raven straight away if you wanna go watercooled somewhere down the line!

i had this dilemma myself and wanted a top quality full tower that would see me right for a long time. everybody seems to keep barking 800d! 800d! like its the best case out there full stop. well think again and compare the lian li a71f with the 800d and look at each case for what it actually is without all the 800d owners screaming that the cooling performance is good but then diverting attention by saying " but it is watercooling ready for the top 360 rad".
i chose the a71f and ordered it last week! paid £158.86p icluding postage!
when i eventually get round to watercooling there will be a triple 120 fan top cover for this thing im sure and i will be able to put a 280 rad up front and a 360 in the top panel and still room for everything else!
buying a lian li is like buying into an ideology that agrees that garish colours, flashing lights and silly plastic shapes does not constitute style.....lol

800d: Crap at air cooling but great at watercooling
RV01: Moderate air cooling potential, no hoper for water cooling
PC71A: By the pics it looks like there is no where to put a RAD without cutting up the case and the air cooling potential looks about moderate.

800d: Crap at air cooling but great at watercooling

Not entirely true, i have an 800D with air cooling atm and temperatures are more than reasonable, as long as you pick decent fans and the right configurations for them its good for air cooling imo. not to mention it would be an awesome case for watercooling.

lol.... just as i said "its good for air cooling imo. not to mention it would be an awesome case for watercooling"

response to DIABLO! lian li make lots of top panels a lot of which are interchangeable.

i cant believe you pay over £200 for a corsair and then you have to go out and buy the fans for it aswell because without the extra fans the cooling is rubbish!

Sounds like fair deal...
Or maybe it needs addition of having right to choose clothes for as long as case is kept.

RV01 isn't in same category.

everyone replaces their stock fans anyway and even with the stock fans its not bad at all. the lian li's are very good cases, i know because ive had one but i dont think you can discount a very good case on some speculation that the air cooling is bad because to be honest it isnt at all. even with stock fans, the cable management is also far more extensive in an 800D which helps no end with air cooling, however, getting a case is totally personal preference i think he would be very happy with either the lian li or the 800D as they are both very well built and well designed cases.

here's some unbaised test results that speak for themselves! http://www.overclock3d.net/reviews/cases_cooling/lian_li_pc-b71/5

I know its not the a71f but the internals are exactly the same bar the hot swap hard drive cage but if anything the results for the a71f would be better as the hard drive cage is less restrictive to the front fans!
i hadn't spotted this test untill today and have to say im impressed it can outperform a haf 922
