Upgrading a few parts and instead of just picking the latest I7 as usual i thought I would come here for advice first.

I am wanting the find the best CPU for running multiple games at the same time. I multi-box many games and I'm not really 100% sure if having a higher ghz processor means I can run more games or not. Anyway yeah just need a processor that will allow me to run more games than my i7 2600k.

Thanks in advance

When you say multi-box i'm gonna assume you mean mmos, cus thats what i used to do a looong time ago, although i'm probably wrong and usually are. Anyway, i always found running out of ram an issue more so than the cpu but if you have focus on all windows at once, depending on the game of course, i guess a beefy cpu would help too.

That was just my first thoughts and don't really know much about anything so wait for someone elses input too LOL.

Hi, Yes i mean mmo's :) Ram is not a problem for me because i have quite a lot of memory but the Cpu is a an issue. I just didnt know if more speed was the answer or maybe there is another factor. I heard some amd cpu's are better are more capacity but im not sure if that means its better for open more game processors or not.

I have also been looking at upgrading my PC that I use mostly for games and haven't been able to decide between the latest cpu or last gen. i7 6700K or i7 5930K.

I'm thinking 5930 at the moment with a high end X99 motherboard (Asrock Extreme 4 3.1) and 16 GB quad channel memory.
Andi.

There is really no point in getting a 5930k unless you need the extra pcie lanes for say tri sli or tri xfire, 5820k would be my choice.

As I might, you never know do you :D
Andi.

If that was the case then you'd probably not be looking at a 6700k as it doesn't support tri-SLI natively due to not enough lanes (the 5820k can) so I'm guessing bluff :p but yeah you're right assuming others use-case is risky. I guess he did qualify it with the conditions though so *shrug*

5820 for dual sli or less.

5930k for dual or triple with full perf on both all GPU.

Maybe with many games even 5960x is a good idea. But this depends of course on budget.

Your not going to see much benefit going to another quadcore, as IPC and real world gains have been minimal, especially with the lower quality thermal compound that intel have been using since ivy bridge. Go with the 5820k or wait for the 68xx series or 69xx series

As the op is looking for more oomph from his pc is there much to be gained with the latest mobile an memory.
For example is there much to be gained by going to X99 or Z170 from an X68 board. Is there much to be gained from a move from dual ch ddr3 to quad ch ddr4?
Andi.
