I just finished building a gaming pc for my little brother and I decided to wait until the launch of the 480 before deciding. But if anything the launch has made it a tough choice.

He wants to play games on ultra at 1080p such as GTA 5, BF4 and the new Battlefield 1 when releseaed.

Question is, should i go for the 480 or buy a new 970 GTX for around £220?

Or am i better off getting that MSI 980 GTX deal on ocuk for £275 (but a part of me is saying I may be better off getting the 970 and overclocking it and saving me the £55?)

Sorry for the questions as iv done my reading and its just made it more confusing. Hopefully I can get some thoughts on the subject :D

Thanks everyone for the quick replies.

It seems that the 480 may be the best bet then and him wanting BF1 which utilizes DX12 is a no brainer and future titles.

I would honetly buy the 480 right this moment but hating those coolers! I might as well wait for the custom coolers as my brother is going on holiday for 3 weeks so he doesnt mind waiting.

Question is how long roughly for the new coolers and do they command a much higher price tag?

Thanks again ;)

If the 1060 is released maybe wait for that?

Good shout out totally forgot about the 1060...but a bit worried about Nvidia's pricing lately to even begin thinking about waiting for a disappointment. But who knows im only speculating at this current moment in time xD

But question is will the 1060 really be that much of a performance jump from the 970? As I just found out that EVGA £20 cash back can get my brother a brand new 970 for £198 :O (Also doubt a 1060 will be around £200 anyway!)
