I’m about to upgrade to a 1660 Super from a 960. I don’t have the budget to upgrade to anything better and I’m happy that a 1660 super will serve me for a few years for 1080 gaming.
While I can’t afford the latest flagship RTX 20xx cards I still like to do my research and make as much of an informed decision as I can. I like to think of myself as an enthusiast without an enthusiast’s budget. To do this, I usually go off the detailed reviews from sites like tomshardware and kitguru.
I’m a fan of EVGA cards for their highly praised RMA service although thankfully I’ve never had to use. To that end, the EVGA 1660 SC ULTRA seemed like a good choice at £230 although I’m being put off it when reading above reviews and videos from Gamers Nexus of the PCB teardowns due to some of the cost saving compromises (mainly around the ~9mm double stacked thermal pads).
I’m not specifically asking for advice about this EVGA card but the same is also true for other 1660 Super cards. There seems to be silly cost cutting when taking more detailed looks at the cards.
Am I expecting too much from a ~£230 GPU?
What advice would you give? Does this stuff even matter?
