My 11 year old Corsair 850w has died and I’m looking to replace it for £200 or less. Ideally looking for one with a 10 year guarantee (where the RMA service is good) and a minimum of 850w.

I plan on using this PSU for any future builds over the next 10 years so I am assuming I should be looking for one with ATX 3.0 and PCIE5. Some of these I have looked at appear to have very mixed reviews about noise and the fan speeding right up on 30% / 40% loads.

What should I be looking to buy?

Thanks

Any decent PSU should have a 10 year warranty now. Seasonic used to have a good reputation for UK RMA, but not sure if they still do. Their ATX 3.0/PCIE5 PSUs are rather expensive though, Corsair's SHIFT prices seem competitive @ OCUK (£135 for 850), but you need a case that is compatible with the side mounted modular panel.

I did look at the Shift, I think it would be fine in my case however it looks like it doesn’t have proper 12VHPWR on the PSU, it just comers with an adapter for it.

If you are going for the min spec 850w, then consider the Corsair Shift 850w @Tetras recommended is a good bet as are the Corsair RMe Series RM850e Fully Modular £125 (Tier A) or the Thermaltake Toughpower GF A3 80 Plus Gold 850W £130 (Tier B).

If you go for 1000w, then the be quiet Pure Power 12 M 1000W ATX 3.0 80 Plus Gold @£170 (Tier A), MSI MPG A1000G PCIE5 UK PSU 1000W 80 Plus Gold @£160 (Tier A) and the Corsair RM1000x Shift ATX 3.0 80 Plus Gold £170 (Tier A) are all excellent choices.

Thank you.

Only reason I ask is I am still running a HX850 I'm guessing from the same era. I think the AX was the top of the range one above the HX from memory.

Sorry because I appreciate this isn't helping you with your thread, but how did it die? Slowly black screens etc or went out with a bang?
Hi there. I used to have a Corsair AX750 which went bang after about 10 years. Great PSU, didnt actually go bang, just started having odd issues like the pc wouldnt turn off correctly. Swapped it out and fixed the issue.

I have a NZXT C850 850w fully modular 80 plus gold, 10 year warranty, made by Seasonic, has a fanless mode too... Got it for £110 instead of £130 on offer from a rival company to OCUK... That still list it for that price :)
Cannot fault it, presentation wise it even gave me my hand bagged modular cables in some posh purple NZXT wash bag haha!

Do you get any coil whine with this on load? I am thinking of this PDU as I have a NZXT AIO coolers and I like the sleeved cables.

No mate it's absolutely silent even in fanless mode. I've played literally everything you can think of current AAA wise on it bar BG3 (not my thing) and yeah doesn't miss a beat.
The presentation of the quality of what you receive is a nice bonus and clearly represents the quality of the psu, they even give you the sleeved modular cables in a NZXT branded purple/white wash bag  I'll never use it, but it's a nice gesture, and just the way it's packaged/unboxes and the thought put into that first impression unpacking it, is very well thought out, attention to detail wise.

I'm not really one for scene brands or 'colabs' but this is a hell of a first impression experience for NZXT, obviously it's a decent model Seasonic in a posh dress, but I'm more than happy with that combination, and the price being on offer (and still is) is outstanding, considering what lesser spec stuff was and is still available for either the full RRP this should have been, or more!

I'd have to dig it out, but there is a hell of a good deconstruction/thorough review on it by a proper OCD well respected reviewer that is a PSU god in terms of knowledge/fault finding/stress testing/reviewing, and IIRC the only thing he mentioned was the stuff was quite close together on the PCB in order to package such high quality over compensated/uprated components - which is fine by me if it works!

I'm not saying it is the best PSU in the world, but for £110 delivered next day thanks to a rival supplier I get free delivery from, considering it usually RRP's for £130-150ish, I couldn't say no, when lesser stuff/worse reviewed was £130+... Plus I know Seasonic make decent 80plus good 10 year warranty stuff if you choose 'that model tier' spec from them :) So a no brainer for me.

This is it btw:

Hahahahaha
Knew you'd appreciate that @Gwyn ;):cry::D
