Ok so my mother in law wants to get a new TV for the father in law, he loves TV and wants a much bigger one than the 46" he currently has.

Looking at 65"-70" I think.

They only have ADSL 1 (8Mbps) so internet speeds are slow so I am not sure they would be getting any 4K content through the internet and I don't believe Foxtel (Australia) will be releasing 4K content on their services either. Their internet connection doesn't look to be getting upgraded anytime soon either. Having said that I am sure they would get a 4K Blu Ray player when they get released.

Not knowing a huge amount about 4K televisions do they upscale normal content to a degree?

Would love some recommendations as to the best TV to get given the above criteria. Would happily go for 1080P or 4K just depends on price and usability I guess.

Thanks in advance.

Buy 1080p.

Since your in Australia we do not know what TV's are available out there, this is a UK forum.

Go to HDTVTEST and AVFORUMS and read their reviews.

hdtvtest have a filter so you can filter by size, etc.

The best tv that matches that criteria will be an OLED/Plasma if you can find one.

Here are some LCD's that match that criteria.

at that size though most seem to be 4K so you may just need to end up buying 4k and not use it for the next 5 years and just watch 1080p content on it.
