Need help choosing at 144hz 1080p 24/25 inch monitor

Build my new PC now looking for a monitor 24-25 inch 144hz 1080p none curved monitor. I have been doing some research and narrowed it down to these three any other monitors i should consider around £200

BenQ Zowi XL2411P - I like the specs but it doesn't have freesnyc ...

AOC G2590PX 25

Ever thought about 240hz 1080p? You can get them now about £299 for the AW2518HF it would be a good jump from those it is a high quality screen with a good image low blur. 144hz 1080p is a bit meh when you could get such a large jump for a little more.


There are other cheap 240hz screens (KG251QD) are you with AMD?
 
Yes i have Vega 56 don't want to be dropping setting to get 240hz rather stick with 144hz and play on high

Ok the freesync Alienware would be crazy good for £299. You only need 120fps minimum in my experience 240hz works well from 120 to 240. So this would mean you would be ok you should not worry as you can still play on high at 144fps on a 240hz freesync monitor.


The reason you want to go higher is input lag, Motion blur, Aliasing and most important of all blur vastly improve from 144hz to 240hz. You would be crazy to go 144hz when you could get the Alienware or Acer. 144hz would imo still pack some blur but 144fps on a 240hz panel has hardly any.

Ok I will check it out, i have never expired anything higher than 60hz, If I'm paying 300 might as well go for 1440p I guess?

I think 240hz is far better than 1440p for gaming because normally the 1440p is blurry and lower res. I think you should experience what 240 is like it basically removes all the blur you are used too, And you think well what about 1440p or 144hz i can tell you they are all the same plague of blurry panels. The proof is that when you go 240hz its only then you realize what no blur looks like everything feels very surreal.

If you were on Nvidia, And i think Freesync works on Nvidia from 48hz to 240hz then you could use downsampling to get 4k 240hz. I put a guide on this but not for Vega on AMD as thiers is called VSR. And i cannot guarantee it does 4k 240fps like Nvidia. When you do this you smash the benefits of 1440p and you get to keep all the 240hz pros like the blur and smoothness and lag and you get to do this on a good color quality panel for £299. I would say in all my time since the Pentium 3 days the AW2518HF and the Asus 2070 Super Evo are the best bang for buck upgrades for average joes. You will not get better until 4k 144hz and if you look online for reviews you will find them and Ninja was using one professionally for Fortnite.
 
I recently bought the Dell S2419HGF and think its a great monitor, has Freesync & can run 1ms response time with no issues. Only slight gripe would be the viewing angles aren't perfect, but I believe that is to do with the type of panel used, but I have soon gotten used to it.
 
I found a viewsonic xg2402 for £140 so far I'm enjoying it :) will keep this until I find a 1440p 144hz I really want to buy.

I own both the XG2402 and the AW2518HF and they are exceptional monitors. For what you paid for the XG2402 is a steal!

Great info Rofflay, any suggestions for a cheapish 240 monitor on AMD? I have a vega 56 and been wondering wether to save money and go 240 but stay at 1080 , I need 27” though, I found an Acer that does 240 but no idea if it’s any good. Am hoping to buy in the Black Friday deals.

What is the model name of the 27 inch? I will look it up i do prefer 24 over 27 but the new 0.4 0.5ms panels look good. I have little knowledge of 27 personally the ppi is too low for me.

Btw i found the opposite to be true, Years ago i could use 30hz as a youngster in early Nintendo and Sega days. Then 60hz came in more but when i started with pc i think we ran 100hz to sync with the cl updaterate 100 in Counterstrike 1.4.


Aging has been the opposite though, I need more hz as i age i guess because they get fatigued now so much i could never do what i did as a kid. You simply can not put an age on the blur reduction, Increased smoothness, Lag reduction and better mouse movements either though. I think the more you age the more you like to appreciate and refine things.

Yes, you're right and the error is mine. FPS is not the same as Hz and I should have said FPS, not Hz. Note that both videos talk about FPS, not Hz.
