Here are my choices: (Or if there are any others you would recommend over these go ahead!)

1) Dell XPS 17" = £700
2nd generation Intel® Core™ i5-2410M processor 2.30 GHz with Turbo Boost
17.3" HD+ WLED True-Life (1600x900) with 2.0 Mega Pixel Integrated Camera
1GB NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 550M Graphics Card
4096MB (2x2GB) 1333MHz DDR3 Dual Channel
320HDD (7200RPM)

2) Dell XPS 15" = £600
Intel® CoreTM i5 480M (2.66GHz/3MB cache)
15.6 HD WLED TL (1366x768) 720p with 2.0 Mega Pixel Integrated Camera
1024MB NVIDIA® GeForce® GT420M
4096MB (2x2GB) 1333MHz DDR3 Dual Channel
500GB2 (7200RPM)

3) Dell Inspiron R 15" = £630
2nd generation Intel® Core™ i5-2410M processor 2.30 GHz with Turbo Boost
15.6in High Definition (1366X768) WLED with True-Life
4096MB (2x2GB) 1333MHz DDR3 Dual Channel
640GB2 (5400RPM) HDD
1024MB NVIDIA® GeForce® GT525M

4) Dell Inspiron R 17" = £680
2nd generation Intel® Core™ i5-2410M processor 2.30 GHz with Turbo Boost
15.6in High Definition (1366X768) WLED with True-Life
4096MB (2x2GB) 1333MHz DDR3 Dual Channel
640GB2 (5400RPM) HDD
1024MB NVIDIA® GeForce® GT525M

5) Alienware 14" = £630
Intel® Core™ i7 640UM (4M Cache, 1.20 GHz)
29.5cm (11.6") WideHD 1366x768 (720p) LCD
4096MB 800MHz Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM [2x2048]
640GB2 (5400RPM) HDD
1GB GDDR3 NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 335M

Are the screen all 720p the same as the alienware?
Someone is putting £600 towards it so I am paying the extra
Any help really appreciated as I am looking to purchase tomorrow

15" inspiron, I have had both XPS and Inspiron and although the XPS looks aesthetically nicer they get less spec for the money. I personally dont think have a 7200 rpm HDD will offer much benefit. I'd rather have the 640gb which will use less battery and give me more space for films and game installs.

Also i have always found with dell ring them up and ask for the lowest spec hard drive and ram etc... but get a good chip, screen, 9 cell battery, gpu. Then upgrade the ram HDD and optical drive myself as it works out cheap. They're price jumps on hardware upgrades is phenomenal.

A well known high street shop that gives a bonus each year is selling an acer laptop with a 2ghz quad core, 6gigs of ram, an ati 5650, 750gig hard drive, 15inch 1366x768 screen
all for the price of £580.

Is the processor a 2nd gen intel processor? I'm pretty set on 2nd gen - although agree this is a good price - guess you cant state where from?

I'm pretty set on this config now - as have been told the 1080p screen is amazing. Will not really be playing games much just to note.
