Hi, Here's my spec.

Abit NF7-S V2 Mobo
Athlon XP3200 barton. (not Oc'k) Runs @ 2.19Ghz
Just purchased ATI X850XT AGP Card.
1Gb PC2700 Ram (x2 512Mb)

I was considering upgrading to the Athlon 64 4000+San Diego . But there only seems to be a choice of 2 mobo's to support my AGP Card i've just bought. (As luck would have it, I didnt realise I would get the money so soon to upgade my mobo thats why I bought the AGP card).

Abit AV8 and the Asrock.
I'm not keen or that interested in o'cing so the question is this.

Would upgrading to the following make that much of a difference in Half life 2 especially with aftermath on its way.

Abit AV8 mobo
Athlon 64 4000+ San Diego Chip
2GB PC3200 DDR 400 Ram

Thanks

Personally i would advise you get the ASROCK Dual PCI-E and AGP mobo (only hear good things about this mobo).

Is this as reliable and has excellent support like Abit.

I was reading a thread on here about it being a hit and miss choice!!.

Well I wont get anything back on my AGP card, So I'm going to stick with it for now.

I've ordered An abit AV8 mobo which I've heard amazing things about, and not only supports AGP but the X2 duel core chips also.

I cant decide on which processor for the board, but many people on here seem to prefer the 3800+ x2. Would this be ok trying to overclock that chip on this board ?.

Also consider the AMD Opteron UP 165 Dual Core San Diego 1.8GHz 2MB Cache. Also very good clockers & have more L2 cache.
See this thread... http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17544376

That would be even better!, but the link to the AV8 mobo page @ abit usa does not specify that it supports Opteron Chips!!.

Update

I've looked all over Net and found 1 person using an opteron 145 on this board with great success so all looks good. :)
