I have been wanting to get some really nice speakers lately and get rid of my Logitech X-540's (no need for 5.1 in my small room :P).

So I researched about bookshelf speakers and separate amplifier's and I cant see my self throwing that much cash away for just some speakers for my PC.

So I listen to a lot of music (Metal, Rock and D&B) and I have a Creative Soundblaster X-Fi Titanium so no worries about dodgy on board sound.

I have decided between three 2.1 speaker sets but I need help deciding which one is the better out of the 3 :)

Acoustic Energy Aego M 2.1

Bose Companion 3

Logitech Z-2300

If you would like to suggest something different to those 3 go ahead.

I haven't listened to all 3 sets of speakers. But I have owned the Z-2300s for several years and they really are fantastic speakers!

I have a similar taste in the music I listen to and the speakers eat it all up :) The bass is phenomenal and they are LOUD! I never turn the volume up past half way and it usually sits at a quarter.

However, I'm sure you'd be able to get a demo of all 3 sets of speakers, if you want a well informed decision, try and listen to them yourself.

I have the Acoustic Energy Aego M's myself along with an Asus Xonar DX card and I can't recommend the speakers enough, dude. They are incredible for music, films and games... the bass is crisp and punchy and doesn't sound muddy at all. I've got the same taste in music that you've mentioned there and all sound great through the speakers.

I've had Logitech speakers in the past and currently use the Z5500's too, but the bass doesn't match the clarity of the Aegos. Not just the bass but overall clarity. The logitech speakers are good, just don't have the clarity.

I was considering the Z2300s too but after reading reviews on both I decided on the Aego's. Good decision imo!

I question the choice of Bose Companion 3 speakers as a consideration. You said you didn't want to spend money on what an amp and bookshelf speakers would cost. The Bose C 3's are £200, a nice 2nd hand amp and bookshelf speakers can be bought for the same price, possibly less, and would be superior.

Yeah but a separate system does not come with a sub woofer unless you pay more for a separate sub woofer thus making it more expensive.

Thanks for the replies everyone I think I might have to go with the Aego M's I can get them for £110inc :)

Before I upgraded to a Marantz amp and Q-acoustic 2010's I used Harmon Kardon soundsticks 2. In fact their connected to my 360 at the mo.

Not only do they look great but they have a tight bass and great mid to treble clarity.

I think either the soundsticks or the aegos Ms would be your best bet but none of these will match a separate amp and speakers imo.
