Need help deciding.

Well its been a long wait but finally can get a new gpu \o> (wife got sick of the nagging) but now it comes to it I'm undecided between two cards the saphire x1950 pro ultimate 256 or the standard saphire x1950 pro 512.

My monitor is fairly old (ok its ancient) the ati ccc reports its max res at 1920 x 1080 and 120 max refresh rate (think thats wrong tho tbh ) mostly I use 1024 x 768 for games etc so my question is basically would I see better performance with the extra ram on the standard version or the faster mem speed of the ultimate?

Noise isnt an issue as my pc sounds like helicopter anyway so the zalman dosnt sway me either way just puely looking at performance.

Someone on here said, you can clock a card faster, but you can't solder extra RAM chips to it!

I generally go for more RAM, and it you were to game at your monitor's top res it would make a difference.

What size is your monitor?

Thanks for the rapid reply its a 20" PBA720 Bought about 5 years ago with my first pc from... pcworld desperatly needs an upgrade but its always low on the priority list

No probs, if you are gaming at 1024 x 768 then it will be the difference between 100 fps and 110 fps
