Hi,

My rig is as follows

CPU - q6600 @ stock
GPU - ati radeon hd4870
RAM - 4x1gb 800mhz DDR2
PSU - corsair HX520
Mobo - asus p5q deluxe
Sound - creative x-fi extreme gamer
2 sata HDD's
1 sata dvd rw

My problems seemed to start with my ram, I couldn't boot if I had certain combinations in and ended up playing with 3gb instead of 4 for a while then I had to take a third out after a couple of months and I had to use 2gb, using memtest I was getting faults all the time so sent off the 2 1gb sticks to corsair and they replaced them,

When I got the ram back I tried putting in all 4 sticks of ram and it still wouldn't boot, I managed to get it to boot to bios by only using 1 stick of ram but bios wasn't detecting the main HDD with windows on it,

I took this to mean it must be a motherboard fault and actually bought the p5q from ocuk to try to replace it, recieved it today, got everything set up and i'm still having problems,

I'm pretty sure it's not the ram as it's just been replaced by corsair, I doubt it's the motherboard as that is new, I have tried a friends GPU and I still can't boot to windows using that, I have tried removing the optical drives and the sound card and it's neither of those at fault,

I can only see this being a PSU or GPU fault now, but I don't know anyone that uses a socket 775 cpu and nobody is willing to let me try the PSU in their pc, which would be moer likely to create the faults listed above?I have already wasted money on a component that I didn't need, I don't fancy doing it again.

Sorry for such a chunk of text, and thanks in advance for any help/suggestions.

oh the joys of faultfinding ,cant you get a gpu of a mate to try that out

could be your boot hd

Yeah I did try the gpu from a friend and the problems persisted, I have tried my boot Hdd in their machine too, It was detected in bios which is better than I could get on my rig
