Hi guys, im in desperate need of help in finding out a problem that happens when i play certain games. The games play fine for a few minutes until unexpectedly the screen starts to flicker and lines are appearing everywhere and different colour lines appear sometimes. The game does not freeze, i can hear everything going on and the game still runs, when i minimize everything is fine apart from games so i have to restart pc.

It use to happen quite frequently when i was running a 9600gt sli setup so i upgraded my gpu thinking it would solve the problem, but i was wrong.
Ive also ran Memtest86 and i got 100% pass, and i've tried playing on different monitors but still happens.

Has anyone experienced this problem before or is their any other tests i can run to check for faults.

My setup is:
Windoes XP 32bit
Intel E8400 @ 3.00ghz
P5N-D 750i sli motherboard
4GB DDR2 RAM
GTX 460 768mb
Creative Sound blaster Xi Fi
700W PSU

Any help is very much appreciated, thank you.

Edit: Link to short video of what happens

Look at the pics in this : http://www.playtool.com/pages/artifacts/artifacts.html

Do any of those pics look familiar/similar ?

Edit: Just reread your post and seen that your have had this problem with your old Video card

Is there anyway you can test your Power supply on another machine or with a psu tester, can you borrow a different psu from a friend to test to see if your psu is at fault?

Also what temperatures is your CPU running at?

Can you test your Hard drives with : http://www.hdtune.com/index.html

Might not be any of the above just trying to help you diagnosing your problem

Hi, thanks for your quick reply. I have uploaded a short video on youtube to show what happens, heres the link

I wont be able to test psu.
My CPU is at 34 degrees according to AI Suite.
Will do a Hard drive test later tonight.

If it's only happening in certain games then it might be a driver issue.

Have you tried a clean install of the latest drivers?

My very first response usually would be the Video cards Vram or the GPU is faulty, however you have said that your old card and different monitors displayed the same faults.

So i would maybe point the finger at the PSU but dont quote me on that, somebody else will respond to this thread im sure that will be able to help you more

I have updated motherboard and graphics driver and problem is still there.
My psu is a TAGAN and under max load it runs at 41 degrees.

Going to try update my bios later, see if that helps.

Let us know later if anything improves when you update bios

updated my bios and tried out starcraft 2, everything was going fine until after 1hour 30 mins later it did it again. Its an improvement to say it use to do it after 5-10 mins, but still not solved it :/

Got a few other things to try out, like upgrading to win 7 doing a clean install of everything but will have to wait till my external hdd comes. Will run that hard drive test aswell later, other than that im lost.

Like ive said you need to either test your PSU in another machine or borrow another psu and test in your machine.

Thats the problem more than likely

Or Buy a new psu the tagan 700W you have is a little of a overkill tbh.

You could get away with a 500-600W easily

If you buy a new psu and you still have the fault you can send it back within 7 days and get your money back so you only lose on the return postage.

Another thing you can try is take out your XFI card and use your Motherboards onboard sound and see if the fault is gone, the XFI might be faulty which is then conflicting with your system this is unlikely but worth a try.

Have you any other Peripherals plugged into your machine?

Have you changed DVI/HDMI leads to test if the leads are faulty?

What sort of temperature is your chipset?

Your video shows a very strange problem, have you tried a fresh install of windows with the latest drivers?
