Currently running a game called ultima online, its a very old game and doesnt require much to run. the server generally only has around 30-40 players on it at any one time. id imagine it would use the same data as any other game server around that price.
problem being, the current owner of the server decided to jack in as he was paying £140 a month for it, to which he wasnt getting enough donations to cover the cost of the server. Im trying to source a new server, that would cost at a max £60 and would run this game lag free?

now i dont know much abouit servers, but ive found one here, uk based that offer great support, that i modified to 2 core, 4gb ram and 100gb hard drive space with microsoft os and 100 mbit for quick connection to the Internet for £40 a month.

im trying to find specs and whatforth for what this server will need, but do you think at a quick look that it will be sufficient? or could get a better setup for the same price or just abit more?

just asked on a sphere irc what req i would need, quoting that same setup as above

13:01] <XuN_> i had a 100 players server with lots of custom scripts and 20m save in a p3 700mhz with 2gb (or 1? cant remember) with 100mb connection
[13:01] <XuN_> so you wont have problems
[13:01] <Soulless> yeah, i had 250 on a similar rig, you will be totally fine

Edit: Assuming neither of those guys use Kpatch which is tied pretty closely to the Sphere Emu itself, I wouldn't take their word as golden. Sphere itself is lightweight, Kpatch is not - it needs a lot of single threaded speed, hence high frequency. Otherwise you end up with those weird problems with the text losing colour and actions desyncing with the output.

Edit2: Could you ask the guy who is paying for hosting at the moment to maybe move to one of Redstation's cheaper servers? The D8-100 would be plenty to run the server on.

Ha! I thought I recognised your username. :) The most awkward bit of the spec is getting a cheap(ish) Windows dedicated server. Sphere and Kpatch aren't multithreaded. Higher frequency is better, so something like an i3 or an i5 would be best. 4GB of RAM will be plenty. I can't think of any hosts which will do it for about £60. Is there any chance of holding on to the Windows Server license the box is using? It might even run fine on a Windows 7 box...

Full spec would be:

CPU: 2ghz Dual Core or better
RAM: 4GB or better
Network: 100Mbit or better
Storage: 50GB RAID1 or Single disk with backup functionality
OS: Windows 2003 R2 or better

Any suggestions anyone?
