Need Spec Advice Please

hey all,

i've decided that i'm going to go with these parts so far for my brand new build.

eu292o.jpg

i'm looking to spend £700 - £800 on it but i am in need of advice on what Graphics Card (1024 MB min), 6GB of DDR3 Tri-Channel Memory, Power Supply and Case to go for.

i am looking to use it for gaming mainly but it will also need to be able to handle CAD software at some point as i am learning to become a draughtman.

if you guys have any suggestions on what i should go for or even change to stay roughly in my budget then i'm all ears. even if you have advice that might take me over my budget i'd still like to hear it :)

cheers !

I quite sure that is over your budget, i am building an almost identical system to you and i am spending £900 overall. Maby you would be better off going for an i5 with a socket 1156 motherboard

Just as a second opinion, I pretty much agree with Manbearpig. The 5770 at the time of buying is a great choice too.

Antec 300 is an excellent budget case that will surpass your needs.

I would be tempted by an Antec PSU but the Corsair listed as some good reviews (always Google a variety of reviews) and its the right price point for a PSU.

The DVD Drive is just right, don't change it.

If the total pushes the budget you are going to have to downgrade the CPU or Mobo, which as it is will perform great. The best option I see is to go down a chipset in Mobo to P55, it will make the least overall difference even if the Mobo is the backbone.

Good luck :)

downgrading to a different mobo will mean that the socket wont fit the processor i have chosen so i have to stick to the mobo type i've selected (the 1366 type).

Urg, I didnt expect a socket change in such a small span of technology from one vendor. Spoiled by the life of 775 maybe?

You're pretty funnelled then, the i7 is an expensive investment with the rest of the components pretty much bare requirements/optimal requirements.

You could spend less on a Graphics card, or get slower RAM but at the moment you're striking a balance.

If you want to spend £200 you're better to get a £200 card than go SLI/Crossfire. The reason for getting a 5770 is the DX11 support for future proofing. The difference in performance spending the extra for a £200 isnt worth it in my opinion, especially if you are on a budget as you will save a lot of money.

Saying that the 275 GTX cards seem to be what you are looking for if you want to spend more.

this is what i've came up with so far

Looks like a midrange beast!

If you're happy to spend around £50 more than the budget on your choice of card you'll be set.

(sorry for the double post)

yeh im fine with going over £800 ... i originally budgeted £1000 but i want to save some cash so brought it down to £800.

need to keep cash for a Monitor but gonna buy one of those in the Jan Xmas sales. the one ive got will do for now.

will have more cash hopefully by then too :P
