Hey guys,

I bought myself a new headset, the Sennhesier PC 360, however i cannot get the microphone to work, i have a Asus Xonar DS 7.1 Sound card with it, but no matter what i do i cant get a microphone working, please help me guys,

Thanks in advance,
Sam

have you disabled or tried the motherboard mic port?

look in hardware and sound in control panel

sound, manage audio etc and see whats enabled and whats disabled or muted
etc and lets go from there

What program/game were you using to find out the mic isn't working?

I was testing it on Start > Sound

I also tried to setup a microphone, but when it told me to speak, it didnt detect anything,

I need the mic to work for teamspeak.

I can hear sound through it, and the line in says "Ready" but i still dont hear anything

update of what i see, i have plugged my mic into all ports on my sound card, and all ports into the back of my IO shield on my pc, and still nothing.

Any ideas?

I did buy this headset off ebay, so im hoping its not a faulty mic, and as i bought a sound card brand new to go with it, i kinda want to try out all the options before sending it back or the sound card is a waste of money,

Does anyone have any ideas?

Do i have to download a microphone driver for windows 7?
Do i have to download any sennhesier drivers?

Please help guys :D

No there aren't any separate microphone drivers, or drivers for the PC360's.

Do you have the front case audio header connected to the sound card?

Most Xonar's and sound cards in general now, have a connector which allows the audio sockets on the front of a PC case to be connected to it, as motherboards also do.

As you haven't tried the front audio sockets it would seem, then it's possible the card is set to use that for the microphone, rather than the rear.

Open the Windows sound properties; go to the recording tab, then select 'microphone' for the Asus Xonar DS and click the properties button. In microphone properties, go to the custom tab and there are three tick boxes. The 'front mic' box should be unticked.

Hey again,

I remove it from the motherboard and connected it to the sound card, the front audio connector i mean.

Also the micropone was ticked on the "Front mic", ive unticked it now, so only the middle box is ticked, but it still says currently unavailable,

any ideas :D?

Hmm, well it should not say 'unavailable' regardless of whether the 'front mic' box was ticked or not, if there is a microphone connected to the card. Ticking or unticking the 'front mic' box, only tells the sound card which port it should be using, front or rear. Something is wrong for it display 'unavailable' with the microphone connected.

Forgive me for asking what is an obvious and probably rather pointless question: You have connected the microphone to the pink socket?

I wouldn't have thought the microphone being broken would be the problem; simply because, you can connect any jack to a socket and it will be detected.

Are you using Windows 7?

Ye im on windows 7,

I have connected the mic to every possible socket, the green and yellow sockets on my case, the 6 sockets on my IO shield, and the 4 sockets on my sound card,

The sound works perfectly fine,

The Asus Xonar DS 7.1 has the 3 slots on the card for things to plug into it, like the HD audio, which is connected, but maybe the other 2 need things connected to them???

On the manual they are called :

1. Front panel audio header
2. Aux input header
3. S/PDIF Out Header

You don't need anything plugged into any of the three sockets for the microphone to work. The other two are; a secondary digital output and secondary input for an internal card. A TV tuner, for eg.

What you could try is Brainbit's Unified Xonar drivers. They are modified versions of Asus' drivers, that some people use if they have trouble with Asus' own releases. Would be a worth a shot, just in case it's a driver issue.

It's a good idea to use a driver cleaner to clear out any files left behind, before installing the Brainbit ones. Someone did mention that a cleaner is built into the installation package, but I'm not sure if it's just an uninstaller for the previous driver.

I installed that driver for my certain sound card and now i dont see my sound card in Sound : Playback/Recording

I only see my razer megalodon xD

Any ideas :D?

I'd try reseating the card, see if that helps. A year or so ago, I had my Xonar disappear. It was not behaving correctly, then it disappeared. I reseated it, and it's been fine ever since.

Yeah ill try that in a bit, its weird though, because its clearly detecting the card, and i can hear 7.1 sound out my headset perfectly fine, i just cant work out how to get the microphone working :(
