Trying to get my daughter's Christmas laptop connected wirelessly to internet. I am with Virgin on 20mb. I have my desktop hard wired to wireless router to modem. My desktop is running Xp. The laptop Vista.
First time I've ever used Vista! I have succesfully connected to network in terms of seeing signal strength on the laptop after entering pass phrase. However I'm struggling to manually enter Ip address, subnet mask, default gateway, preferred DNS server and alternate DNS server on the vista laptop so that I can actually connect!
I don't know if i should be selecting properties within protocol 6 or 4 to do this? when i have the correct protocol, I assume I just copy Ip address, subnet mask, default gateway, preferred DNS server and alternate DNS server from my desktop settings but with a slight amendment to the Ip address?
