basically at the end of my 150ft garden i have a double car garage, which now i cleaned it out i got enough room for the cars and for me to bodge about with pc parts. now due to the amount of time i will be spending down there now i was thinking of building a cheapy web browser pc and also have it to play music and maybe the odd film down the garage when im working.

firstly the distance between my pc and where the pc in the garage would be situated is about 180 - 200 foot, whats my best option of getting everything networked? or will it be a case of making the pc down the garage a stand alone machine for just music and films?

any input would be great

thanks :)

A decent wireless router should give you what you need. I have a belkin N1 Vision and it has a wireless range of 1,600ft although im sure there are cheaper alternatives out there. Just make sure you get the right type of router for your connection (ADSL/CABLE).

over a relativly big area what sort of connection should i expect to recieve both for say streaming and connectivity to the web?

im running 10mb cable modem on my home pc if that helps

I dont think you would have to much trouble browsing the net or streaming video, then again it depends on what you would be streaming? HD Video for example might not be as smooth as you would like.

Your best choice would be to do as "TheRedZealot" suggested if thats a option for you to do.

it is an option as im doing the garden next and i have a lot of fence panels to replace, might see if its possible to conceal like a small downpipe from one end to the other and run a waterproof cable thru it (with the pipe acting like a shield and the waterprrof cable i think it would be better protected from the rain/heat etc)

it would most probably be dvd quality streaming of vids as i got all my dvd collection on my hard drives :) and i wouldnt think music would be a problem ?
