Ok I have started on my build and this is the first time I'm installing a cpu. I'm using the MSI GD65 and the lever just won't go down. It just seems like I'm applying too much pressure. I have also dented a little of the cpu metal casing on both sides. Any help?

Is the cpu lined up in the socket ok, is it possible to post pics.

Yup, I'll post pics now, give me 2 mins. It's lined up perfectly by the way.

Edit* can't find my usb, there must be someone here who has insalled an i5 before.

there should be an arrow on the cpu and an arrow on the socket so you know which way its suposed to be put in.

both the arrows should line up

There probably will be a bit of horrible crunching when you put it down. It's not a nice sound, but it is correct.

The CPU should only go in one way due to the notches in the side of it, and the arrow on the corner will line up with the socket.

The first time I installed my i7 I thought I was going to break something, the socket lever takes quite a bit of pressure to lock it in place.

You really can't go wrong when fitting the chip into the socket, they are keyed so they can only sit in one position...

That horrible crunching was what put me off :D.
