Need help installing Windows 7 for first time.

Hello there,
I have just got windows 7 and I am trying to install it, I put the disk in and it goes to a black screen which says "Reboot and Select proper Boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key".
I press a key and it just pops up again, I have restarted several times but it keeps happening.

Please help.

Go into BIOS, tell it use the DVD drive as first boot device.

There is only 1 boot device, which is a SATA: ST500DM002-1BC142.

Check the cables to your optical drive, then check it is showing in the BIOS, then as above.

Booted and now its stuck on a cmd.exe with x:\windows\system32>

Your dvd drive is not working as it should be.

Swap the SATA cables over and see if it does the same, or use spares if you have them.
