I ordered a new motherboard, RAM and processor a few days ago and it arrived yesterday. I believe the board to be faulty so I have called for an RMA but haven't had my authorisation back yet. I was just wondering if there was anything else I could do to confirm that the board is the faulty component This is what I did:
1. I built the system normally and connected all peripherals (IDE devices, SATA drives, USB headers etc). I plugged in the power and the system comes on without me having to press the power button. It does not POST.
2. I removed all drives, usb, mouse, keyboard etc. one by one to see if there is any difference. There is not.
3. I tried powering on without RAM installed. No beep codes from the speaker. System still powers up without the need to press the power button.
4. I tried building the system out of the case and on the box the board arrived in to ensure nothing is shorting on the back of the board and the case/screws etc. Symptoms all the same, powers up without button needing to be pressed, no beep codes from BIOS etc.
Is there anything else that I should try before I return the board? The fact that it powers up by itself with no need for the power button to be pressed says to me that the BIOS is fried somehow. Also, if it was something other than the board surely I would be getting feedback from it in the form of beep codes.
Is the board faulty? I don't want to send it back only for the company to send it back to me saying it's not the board.
