As above.

My mums put my key fob for getting into the car through the wash, and its the only one i have.

I can't see a name stamped on it anywhere, and the car is de-locked, so the only way in would be the break a window.

We're dring it out, there was a dim light on but i don't know if its recoverable or not.

If its nackered, is there a way of getting into the car? Are there auto electricians that can use a tool to get into the car via frequency, and then program a new remote for me?

Obviously this is a real pain, and i can only see part numbers on the plastic casing, and a number on the unit itself....

Front casing - 551120660
Back casing - 551120650
Unit - LS243212711

Any ideas/help/advice?

Phil

Never understood de locking.
Understand it even less now.

What make of car is it?
Give the make, model and year to the relavent dealer and they will magically produce a fob for your car in minutes.

Open it up and remove the battery. Leave it open and stick it in the airing cupboard or somewhere warm for good few hours at least then give it a try.

Ok, its been sat in the sun for ther past few hours, i bought a new battery for it, and put it in.

I get a light now coming on as before, but it doesnt seem to open the car. Regardless of thsi now, if it works, does that mean i can take it to a company who will tune a new fob into the frequency that the current fob is on?

On my car (Peugeot 306), I just have to put the new key into the ignition, turn it to position 2, then press the unlock button on the fob, that fob's then programmed to my cars frequency or suchlike.
My dad's got the next model Astra after yours, and it's exactly the same as mine, so you might be lucky, fingers crossed! :D

Dude, if you take the battery out for more than 10 seconds or so, they forget the frequency.
All the fobs are blank, with no power, they have no memory, the ONLY way back into your car is to either break into the car and reprogram the fob in the ignition or go to a dealer and have them do it.

Have you tried actually breaking into the car with a coat hanger? Or a slim jim type tool?

Cars of that age are very easy to break into, my corrado took me less than 2 mins with a coat hanger and i had never done it before.

Or call out the RAC/AA and they can get in for you. Had to do this with the prelude.

What you could also do, is get a couple of flat screw drivers, wrap and old rag around each of ends and use them to lever the door open slightly. Then use a long piece of wire to either pull on the handle or the lock.

I'm not going to lever the door open, i'd rather smash a window.

I've come across a company that had a picture of my fob on their website, so i callesd them up and they are calling me back in office hours tomorrow. I don't mind having to break a window if i have to.

Its an aftermarket alarm, not a standard one, so hopefully they can help sort something without having to do something too drastic, otherwise it can sit on the drive for now!

you only need to lever it about 4mm to get the wire through. Not like these chavs that do it and warp the door. It would go straight back to how it was once you remove the screwdrivers, no lasting damage :)

If you rub the key fob on the back of a Casio digital watch in an anti-clockwise motion, it might help.

Or..

When I couldn't get in my car, I phoned my breakdown company. It would normally be chargeable, but I negotiated and they came out and did the necessary to get back in my vehicle.

Is the alarm not going off?

It went off, so i popped the bonnet and turned it off on the siren with the key.

I found a company that dealt with the alarm i had, so i rang them and the key fob is no longer made for them as the alarm is so old.

I am now booked in to have a Toad AI606 (i think thats the name) fitted next week :)
