I am trying to make a backup of the stock OrangeUK rom before rooting just in case I need to send my Desire back for any repairs. So far I have made a dump of the stock system off of my phone into a dump.tar.
Now what I need to do is get a boot.img and META-INF to be able to make a signed update.zip, perfect for restoring if need be.
Now there is a stock OrangeFR rom available to download so I was thinking whether I could steal some bits from that one, which really I should be able to use the META-INF due to how similar the two roms are. The only thing is I am not sure whether I could get away with using the same boot.img as it, due to the boot.img mainly dealing with the kernel then I should be able to get away with any boot.img that uses the same kernel as the OrangeUK one.
I was wondering whether there was anyone on here is using a stock rom could pull their /proc/config.gz so I can compare mine to yours. If so then I should be able to use the boot.img from an already available signed update.zip for that provider.
Does this seem fairly sound thinking to others at all? I just wish there was an OrangeUK rom available so I didn't have to do this.
