Here is my setup:

CPU: intel i7 5930k
Mobo: Asus x99 sabertooth
GPU: EVGA GTX 980ti hybrid sli
Monitor: Asus PG278Q

I have this weird problem.. The PC skips the bios splashscreen and boots straight to Windows if I connect the monitor to the second slot card. There is no such issue when connecting to the first slot card.

It is a little annoying since I would like to use my bottom card as the main card and sometimes I want to access the bios.

The problem is that the bios is initializing the cards in slot order , hence the reason you don't get the bios screen on the second card. There probably isn't a lot you can do about it.

Genuine question but why?

When you want to access the bios use the first GPU and thing switch to the second?

At idle you wont be in any danger of the heat making any difference.

If you don't throttle, don't worry on temps.
