I plan on building a new pc (for gaming and Collegework/ Programming), but its been a while and i am unsure of compatibility of RAM and motherboards etc, i just wondered if i had made and monumentally stupid mistakes in selecting these components.

Processor: AMD Phenom II X4 Quad Core 965 Black Edition* 3.4Ghz Quad 146.99 http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-253-AM

RAM: Patriot Viper 4gb (2x2) 88.99 http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-019-PA&groupid=701&catid=8&subcat=1516

MotherBoard: Asus M4A785TD-V Evo AMD 785G 74.99 http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-355-AS

HDD: Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 500Gb 39.99 http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-206-SE

PSU: OCZ ModXStream Pro 500w 56.99 http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-037-OC&groupid=701&catid=123&subcat=

CD/DVD Drive: LG GH22NS50 22x DVD±RW SATA ReWrite 22x 18.99 http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CD-094-LG&groupid=701&catid=10&subcat=

Graphics: Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 5770 1024MB 115.98 http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-216-SP&tool=3

Case: NZXT M59 Mid-Tower Windowed Case - Black ATX 46.99 http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-020-NX&groupid=701&catid=7&subcat=

Im also wondering if it would be worth spending £60 extra on a HD5830 instead of a HD5770.

XFX ATI Radeon HD 5830* http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-168-XF&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=1711 174.99

Thanks In advance for any advice you may have.

This is what I would get:

AMD Phenom II X4 955BE ~ £128

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-244-AM

Asus M4A89GTD PRO ~ £108

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-392-AS&groupid=701&catid=5&subcat=1782

Has a split 8+2 phase VRM with cooling,6 SATA 3.0 ports, all solid capacitors and does symmetrical Crossfire at PCI-E 2.0 8X/8X. Uses the SB850 southbridge.

OR

Asus M4A79XTD Evo ~ £90

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-366-AS&groupid=701&catid=5&subcat=1481

Has a split 8+2 phase VRM with cooling, all solid capacitors and does symmetrical Crossfire at PCI-E 2.0 8X/8X. Uses the SB750 southbridge.

4GB low latency 1600MHZ DDR3 ~ £90

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-180-OC&groupid=701&catid=8&subcat=1517

HD5770 1GB ~ £116

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-216-SP

Zalman Z7 Plus Midi Tower Case ~ £43

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-033-ZA

Samsung F3 1TB ~ £58

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-082-SA

Pioneer SATA DVD rewriter ~ £19

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-006-IN

Antec TruePower New Modular 650W Power Supply ~ £77

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-117-AN

The Antec PSU I have listed is made by Seasonic and is a better unit than the current OCZ ones at a similar price IMHO. There is also the cheaper 550W version for around £70.

A pair of HD5770 1GB cards can be as fast as an HD5870 1GB.

The total comes to around £621 to £639 excluding delivery.

You could add an SSD such as the following if required:

I assume you have a copy of an OS.

Considering the price of the 5830 has gone down to a more sensible price now I think its worth getting :)

I also agree with the OCZ RAM its a much better manufacture. Also change the HDD to a Samsung F3 Spinpoint for the same price :)

Thanks for the advice !, so would i be better off buying a 5830, or getting one 5770 now, and then in a couple of months (When funds are adequate) to get another one and run two?

either go all out and buy a 5850, or buy one 5770 now and another later.

5830=sucks, still to much money, even at £160.

Thanks, this has helped a lot, one last question, the two mother boards listed Bellow,

Asus M4A89GTD PRO ~ £108

Is there a major difference between them, and is it worth spending £20 more for the £108 One ?

Excellent!, thanks everyone, one final thing, i dont need to buy screws or cpu heatsinks etc , do i? they all come with the components ? and all i need i have included above?

screws come with the case.

heatsink is in the cpu box, with thermal paste already applied.

sata cables come in the motherboard box
