Need help overclocking an E6600 on a P5N-E

It's incredible to me that some users are trying to compare socket temperatures with core temperatures and even across manufacturers - statements like 'My old X2 used to idle cooler than this. I'm very disappointed' are quite common. If AMD had fitted core temperature sensors I doubt that would have been the case.

I thought AMD64 chips had core temp sensors, coretemp certainly works with them

Speedfan doesn't read the cores, it reads the CPU socket, so it's a good indication of how hot the CPU socket is. You have to use CoreTemp to get a proper CPU temperature result.

thats cleared it up for me
[email protected] and 3.1
Chipset at Auto, chipset H/S is hot degrees C
Socket temp 21C
Core temps both at 39C 3 hours into Orthos small FFTs

You can see from the loop that the Res gets cooled by the 120mm

All my BIOS settings are set to Auto.

Here lies your problem, you need to manually set your core voltage and turn off things like EIST and a fair few other options if you haven't already matey :) My friends brother left his voltage on auto for his e6400 and it went up to something mad like 1.5x volts at 3ghz, all on its very own :p

TAT works on my 680i, and it is dependant on the CPU not the mobo.
I wonder whats lacking in the 650i then, maybe it will be updated to work but I cant see Intel doing that for the benefit of nvidia users

Those pictures look like you could travel through time with that thing :D
Have you considering cooling the NB too

Ive only had the rig together for 24 hours.
Since i moved the rad from the top of the case, ive got a hole top half with only the HDD's and a couple of roof fans, when i get an 8800gtx i might add another double rad in the roof and cool the northbridge then.

TAT doesn't work on my friends Quad GT either.

@ pegasus1...

What have you wrapped your cables with? Is it electrical tape? I need to find something to wrap mine in, they are all over the place.

Also, TAT doesnt work with my P5N-E. I get an error message when i launch it.
