What settings would you recommend?

I dont want to push it too too much, theres no need, i dont want to damage anything, i'll be honest, its just something to do.

I hit 51*C under full load with stock settings to give you an idea.

I did try 3.2GHz @ 1.3v (just as what i thought would be a fail safe, cos 1.3 seems quite adequate for 3.2) and it wouldent start up (it reset and cleared the overclock) so i dropped it to 3 on the same volts, and it did the same thing. so im not sure what is wrong there.

Any clues?

The system has 2x 2gb of 1333MHz DDR3 (stuck at 1066MHz for some reason)
The motherboard is a GIGABYTE GA-P41T-D3

I'd be surprised if it couldn't do [email protected]. I have an E7200 which does 3.2 at just slightly over stock volts, around 1.14 (stock is about 1.12), and the E8200 is superior.

It could be you were OCing the memory too far. If you put the FSB to 400 and the memory divider to 3:4 the memory will still be at 1066, but the chip at 3.2.

How far do you think i could go on the stock cooler?

(if its currently sitting at 51*C after 138 hours of full-load folding in a cupboard)

I dont know the maximum rated temperatures for these chips. I would want to be about 5*C under the recommended maximum just for comfort i think...
