need help overclocking E6600

hi people,
im using a gigabyte 965P-DS3 and an akasa evo blue air cooler. Overclocked to 3.2 Ghz no problem, idle temps bout 26C. Ive set the motherboard to optimize voltages by itself, cos its meant for overclocking. The normal voltage should be 1.35, and it floats about 1.2 when its idling. Ive set the FSB to 400mhz and cpu multiplier to 8, but when i set it to 9, giving 3.6 Ghz, it wont open windows, it just restarts. Can anyone tell me *** i might be doin wrong?

Hey for a start you dont really want to leave your vcore setting on auto, the gigabyte boards can have a nasty habit of pumping a lot of vcore in there.

Running an e6600 at 3.6ghz is not guaranteed especially on a 965 chipset. This might be the limiting factor here. You can try upping the nb and fsb voltage by 0.1 this may help stabalise.

I run an e6600 on a Gigabyte GA-P35C-DS3R I choose not to run it at 3.6ghz. I can do but I need to set the vcore in the bios to 1.55 v, an actual vcore in cpuid of about a 1.52. This runs too hot for my liking, pushing 60 c under load, this is on watercooling too.

It's of course a personal choice as to how risky you think certain vcoreand temp values are, if your happy with the risk then try the below, and take your time. Checking stabiity with prime 95 or something similar before trying to reach higher speeds.

Try upping the vcore, nb and fsb volate and see your results. Instead of going straight to 400, try it at 9*366 then slowly move up increasing the voltages as you see fit. Run prime95 for 30 mis if you get no erros then rinse and repeat.
