Hi got a I7 930 and a GIGABYTE X58A-UD5 with a noctua air cooler, would like some help with overclocking anyone got the rought settings I should use to hit 4ghz and how do I stop my processer from downclocking every 5 minutes

thanks

The guide linked below is a great guide for people new to i7 OC'ing and lists the settings needed to achieve 4GHz. I suggest going through the stages of overclocking he lists rather than jumping straight to 4GHz but it's up to you.

Also, what do you mean by your CPU downlocking every 5 mins? I'd hazard a guess that it's Intel's Speedstep technology lowering the CPU multiplier (and therefore clock speed) and voltage when the CPU is idle to conserve power.

65-70c with prime running.
Using a Thermalright ultra extreme with one Sharkoon 2000 fan.

The Noctua is a good cooler.

How are the fans connected, do they increase in speed when you increase the load on the cpu, connect them up directly to the psu and see how you get on.

You might need to reset the cooler.
