My friend has a 939 setup with 4 x 512MB DDR400 ram.

He upgraded to some G.Skill DDR400 2 x 1GB with better timings, and so he could go for 4GB if he wanted to.

His board is an Asus A8V Deluxe.

In trying to swap over the RAM he broke one of the clips that holds the ram in place, off the board so he had to use the other pair of slots. (the board has 4 slots).

Now the pc wont turn on. If it has NO ram in then everything will spin up but obviously nothing on screen as theres no ram in the pc.

With ram in (either new ram or old ram) the pc fans spin up for 2 seconds then turn off.

HELP!

Put each piece of ram in individually in a different slot. If he broke the ram putting it in, then you'll know which piece.
That about all i can think you can do. Otherwise if that doesnt work he may have mashed his motherboard in the process.

Ok panic over. The pc is working with 2 x 512MB (the old ram), but wont turn on if the new ram is put in.

Currently trying different slots with just 1 stick of the new RAM.

the new ram is DDR 400 G.SKill 2 x 1Gb sticks. they are from my old pc so i know they work fine.

the board supports:

"- 4 x 184-pin DIMM Sockets support max. 4GB DDR400/DDR333/DDR266"

so it should work fine, but the board doesnt want to come on with it in
