I'm currently in the process of putting together a shopping list of components to build my first gaming pc & want some advice on which are good cases to work with.

I will be using a GTX8800 graphics card (possibly 2) & I do believe these take up a lot of space & won't fit in certain cases.

I really like the cases which you can see the insides as i've been browsing the gallery & there are some really cool ones.

Any advice & pics would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Probably best looking at a Akasa Eclipse 62 or maybe a Antec 900 depending on your budget, which you have neglected. ;)

What power supply are you looking at?

If you are planning on running 2 8800 cards then you are looking at a 1000W power supply, personally I would take the Enermax Galaxy for that and use the Akasa Eclipse case.

If it is a single card solution then a 620w Corsair HX power supply would get my money without a doubt, I currently have a S12 Energy+ 650w power supply from Seasonic (same brand but not modular) and it is the best power supply I have personally owned and I have owned a lot. Seasonic (they make the corsair) just seem to do power supplies to an industry leading standard.

If you are running 8800 SLI then obviously it limits case choice due to the size of power supply and heat output the cards generate.

The budget for case and power supply will be the deciding factors, if you could give the rough amounts your looking to spend then it should be easier to help with this. :)

I disagree abour recommending a 1kw psu for gtx's in sli. Nothing currently needs a 1kw psu (well not g80's in sli, a quad core and 4 hard drives anyway) and those galaxy's are not quiet once they get going. Anyone I know who has one says they sure get noisy under load. Also the Eclipse is NOT the ideal case for the galaxy as the small psu opening on the bottom of the Eclipses psu cage blocks about 40% of the Galaxy's huge fan.

Corsair are demoing their 620w hz running sli no problem. HardOCP rated this the best psu they tested EVER, which is a testament that it's quality over quantity when it comes to psu's. These are Seasonic built psu's.

It's very clear now that Nvidia overestimated the wattage and amp requirements. SLI barely pulls 375 watts and that's in a full system. Lots of sources on the web will back this up. I believe the last site I read about this was on Anand. Of course what is not clear is whether the DX10 titles will push these G80's and as a result they could pull a lot more power then they are pulling now.

For this reason I would go with the Seasonic M12 700w or possibly the Enermax Inifnity 720w. Both are much quieter then any 1kw psu out there. Not much data available on the Inifninty but initial reviews say it's very quiet.

If you want to ask about psu requirements head over to the forums on jonnyguru.com, register and ask those dudes as they are very knowledgeable on the subject. Here's a link to what they recommend for a high end gaming rig : http://www.jonnyguru.com/forums/showthread.php?t=103
