Hello sorry for another monitor post I've done lots more research since my last post and I'll include as much information as I can regarding my next purchase, monitors just baffle me and I just need an improvement this week as some of my games look terrible XD.

Current monitor:
Old Dell, 1440x900 60hz.

Important rig specs:
i6600k @4.7
GTX 1060 with the standard MSI OC.
16gb RAM 3000mhz

Games I play.
  • Overwatch
  • League of legends
  • Final Fantasy XIV
  • Rocket League
  • Diablo 3
  • Grim Dawn
  • Dark Souls 3 (capped at 60)
  • Killing floor 2
  • Resident Evil 7
  • Lots of indie platformers and horrors

List of monitors I'm looking to choose between..
  • Acer Predator GN246HLBBID 24" 144hz
  • BenQ ZOWIE XL2411 24" 144hz
  • ViewSonic XG2401 24" 144hz
  • ASUS VS248HR 24" 60hz

Opted against gsync for now its just to expensive in the 1080p range...

Would I be able to make use of the 144hz in things like overwatch, diablo, league etc? or is it a waste of an investment for me right now. I do plan to look into another GPU in a few years time and go into the middle ground of the 70 series or middle series amd card depending on how they look. Eyeing up the viewsonic for £240 or do I stick with 1080p at 60hz for £120. its basically double the price to go to 144hz. I cant afford gsync.

So no real reason I shouldn't get a 1080p 144hz if I can afford one? seems the viewsonic is the way to go. Cant use the freesync part but I may end up with a amd card if vega is any good and put the 1060 in my partners pc so that's something! or use it as a second monitor down the line!?

Just ordered the viewsonic! it'll be here tomorrow so I'll let you know how I find it, thanks again for the help everyone i'm looking forward to experiencing some games above 60fps and not playing at 1440x900 on my new pc :D

So my monitor came yesterday! Wow am I impressed! Out of the box a lot was ok but I tweaked a few things and did the standard setup from what I'd researched online to make sure I was playing at 144hz. Beauuuutiful I booted overwatch and changed a few settings that would impact performance that I would not want on anyway in a competitive shooter like this anyway and maxed out character models etc that made things look pretty. was hitting 155 fps most times! (I assume it buffers 10 or so extra frames over the 144?) I only ever dipped to 130-140 when a zarya ult went off with something else but I wouldn't even have noticed unless I wasn't watching my fps those few games like a hawk! I noticed it improved my aim and such as well (maybe that's just new monitor excitement though but my aim % was a lot higher!).

Resi 7 I had maxed out hitting 70-95fps throughout my hour play, grim dawn easy 144 constantly, the forest 80 average on max and my sweet sweet dark souls 3 looks beautiful at 1080p still running on max no drop from 60 frames yet!

Overall fantastic monitor easy to setup, great performance so far I couldn't be happier so glad I went with the 144hz model as everything is above 60 frames constantly on max settings bar the games that are capped at 60 anyway!

Thanks again everyone for your input I highly recommend this monitor to anyone with a 480 or a 1060 like myself.
