Just put my new 7600GT into my PC after it's not been working for four odd months.

I plugged in my hdd and my dvdrw and it crashes at post when it's "Detecting IDE drives" or something similar. If I plug in either the dvdrw or the hdd, in either of the IDE channels then it's fine... But both at the same time then it crashes..

Any ideas? :(

I need both in to install Windows and for general usage...

Oh, and I also can't get into bios.

Cheers,
Naffa

Could be.. But I've just found out that one of the IDE channels isn't working.

I put my dvdrw and hdd in, not working. Unplugged the hdd, the PC is fine and works. Unplug the dvdrw and plug the hdd in and it's not working.. Plug the hdd IDE lead into the other IDE port on the motherboard and it's fine.

Anyone know the solution to this? :(

Well I think I've sourced the problem. :(

When I run the DVD and HDD on the same loop I get the same problem. DVD on it's own, fine. HDD on it's own.. No chance.

Looks like I'm forking out for a new hard drive as well. :o

As Footman said, jumpers. Specifically those on the drives. Make sure one of each pair you're connecting to the same cable is set to master and the other to slave. What you're describing sounds very much like both drives are set the same.

Hmmm, the hdd didn't work when plugged in at all. Unplug it and it's fine. Jumpers are fine. When I have then both on the same loop, doesn't work. Take the hdd out of the loop and fine. If I put them on seperate loops it still doesn't work, take the hdd out and it's fine.

Borrowing one from benjo and it's working fine. I'm pretty sure that was the problem.
