Need Help Re: Ultima OC 8800GT - Keeps restarting during intensive use

I bought the "Ultima OC 8800GT" Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.40GHz @ QX6950+ 3.30GHz+ Quad Core SILENT DDR2 System 4gb ram May of last year.

Im not really a heavy gamer but recenlty i got Xmen origins - Wolverine & also Prototype and my pc has been crashing.

There is no error report, no .dmp files nothing.

It just reboots with NO warning. Its happened 4 times tonight whilst playing Prototype. Really not very happy.

The system is overclocked to overclockers specs (as above) I really don't know what i can do.

This also happens when i stream Live music (i am a dj & do 3 web shows a week) & so far this same issue has happened on 3 shows (nsbradio.co.uk) Which is the main reason i bought the computer.

Im running XP SP3 & Windows 7, it doesn't seem to matter which OS i am running as to how long it takes for it to crash.

Sorry for this being my first post but i can't deal with having an "amazing" pc and it not performing how it should do.

Please help...

At this time of year the first thing I'd do is run the PC with the case open and a big fan blowing into it. If that cures the problem you know it's heat build-up.

On a serious note i was hoping it would be something more complicated than that.

There's 5 fans on the case (Thermaltake Armor) & England really isn't that hot right now.

I don't know to much about hardware but after spending the last few hours on the forum hunting around im guessing it could be something to do with my ram.

But im not sure how to check it for errors etc.

On a quick note however i downloaded cpuz-z Results below !

Cheers for any help.

Righty-ho... so we've established that its not an OS issue so its probably hardware or config related.

First thing I can see from the screenshots is that something is pretty badly awry. Your CPU is set at 2.1Ghz, when at stock it should be 2.4Ghz and clocked should be 3.3Ghz!

What type of RAM do you have, as that FSB looks strange, unless its 1066 DDR2.

May be worth resetting everything to default in the BIOS and having another go?

With that many fans I doubt its overheating, have you checked all fans are working in moving air the correct direction, and that the CPU fan is actually still working?

All fans are working correctly.

I have not played with any settings since getting it from Overclockers.

It says that my cpu is running at 3.2 on everything else which suprised me when running this CPU-Z program !

Am i safe to run everything in Auto mode ?

Cheers Matt_fsr

It seems to show the left pic for a second and then the right pic seems to be what its sitting at now !

I set everything to auto and it wouldn't start so i used the Bios Reset switch on the back of my mobo (ip35 Pro off limits)

Strange !

Is there a way i can get all if the bios settings that Overclockers did prior to me getting my pc ? That way i can just set everything how it was and it should be stable no ?

But then i've acheived nothing ?

I feel its definately a hardware or bios setup issue thats causing problems.

I must admit i changed a couple of settings in the bios (boot sequence & display page thing ! )

Should i update the bios somehow ? Would that help ?

Its doing my head in when it keeps on crashing during some important shows online.

Can i do the settings to the CPU without doing anything to the ram ?

If i could get the settings off of Overclockers that would be amazing. There must be some kind of record kept by them for all the computers they've made surely ?

Cheers again

That's just speedstep knocking the clock speed down.

Ah yes, I'd forgotten about Speedstep, never use it. Will - all speedstep does is underclock the CPU in order to save power, hence CPU-Z reporting the bouncing up and down of speeds.

Does it crash in games only, or under load?

Try getting Prime95 and Furmark, both benchmark programs, and giving it a good loading up. The crashes *could* be driver related, though it seems an extreme rection to a driver crash.

Keep an eye on your temperatures if you use the above 2 programs - id recommend only 1 at once to start off with, see if either loading up the CPU to 100% or the GPU to 100% for a length of time causes the same kinda crashes.

Can i turn the speedstep off ? If so How ?

It crashes (NO bsod) in games (prototype, wolverine) and also when im streaming live on the interenet which generally uses upto 500mb of memory in the task manager under Firefoxes or IE mem usage. Im also finding that when using a java chat applet (www.nsbradio.co.uk/chat) that process uses 25% of cpu usage !
The crashes are completely random tho and it doesn't make any difference if i use Windows 7 or XP pro. Both are upto date as much as they can be.

Do i need to update all my drivers ?

Should i leave it in 2.4ghz not oc'd and see what happens for a few days ?

Cheers

odd how corevoltage is lower at x6 multi than x9?

speedstep could be under that name, also disable C1E and i like to set cpu ratio to x9 manually

try the game with it running at stock settings like that and report back :)

**btw nice VID :P

So i've applied the OC settings in the bios and also done the couple of things that people said on here.

Cpu-znew.jpg

This is how it looks now.

I haven't gotten to playing the game but will be giving it a go shortly...

Fingers crossed that it won't crash ! I've been thinking of buying some new ram anyway so would http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-038-KS be ok ? (possibly 4 or 8gb!)

Breadturbo - what vid ???

Cheers guys

So after around 15 mins of playing Prototype i got a bsod !

I guess this is progress from it just restarting without any warning....

It sayed "irq not less or equal" and i have the memory.dmp file if that helps ?

So...after downloading a copy of Prime85 and running it my pc crashed (NO bsod) after well not very long... Only things that were on my screen when it rebooted were this so im guessing its something thats not right with my ram ?

V24OptionsConverted=1
WGUID_version=2
StressTester=1
UsePrimenet=0
MinTortureFFT=8
MaxTortureFFT=4096
TortureMem=400
TortureTime=15

[PrimeNet]
Debug=0

Anything else i can do ? Please help :(

I think its something to do with the overclock.

When its overclocked (ocuk) it crashes almost instantly when i try to run Prime95 but when i reset the mobo with the reset switch to i guess standard it seems to be fine ! Temp got up to around 72c

So im guessing its just how the overclock has been mis-done maybe !

Im actually not to fussed to the overclock now but i need it to be stable either way.

If i can run everything with it at not overclocked than i'll be happy.

If i can overclock it a bit then why not but if so i'd like some help as i've been out of the link with Technology for a good few years (hence why i bought the OCuk system pre-overclocked) as i never got into overclocking when i did know about computer technology :eek:

I hope that this will get sorted. Feels a waste of its potential otherwise :(

Cheers again & i have started a post in the other forum Re: bios...
