Need help / Recommendation

Hi

I have been given a project to do on 3D studio max 7 (A big one) and it is far to slow at rendering on my computer its a bit on the slow side and i do not follow the new hardware that comes out so can someone recomend me what i need to upgrade to make it render a lot faster.

My spec is
Pentium D extreme edition 3.2ghz O.C 4.0ghz using 20x cpu multiplier

1GB of ddr 2 ram (sry don t no what type)

2x 6800 ultras 512mb = 1gb in sli

motherboad is Asus P5NSLI nForce 570

Thanks for reply So you think my cpu is the problem and are the Intel Core 2 DUO a lot quicker than the one i have and what one should i get i will not be overclocking.

The overclock on my cpu was not done by me it was done by a m8
