Hey guys :)
My 'other' PC is on it's last legs. It's a few years old (cost quite a bit though back then) My main use will be for lots of Photoshoping, Watching DVDs, but no gaming.
Here's the old spec..
AMD 4800x2
2Gb DDR2 Ram
250 Gb Hard Disk
512Mb ATI Radion 1900xt
S Blaster Audigy 2

Can you give advice on processor & GFX card that at least equals the performance of my old PC.

Cheers :)

What sort of budget are you looking at?
Your best option, if you can afford will be i7, if not then AM3 quad core, cant really spec anything up without a budget, and do you want it to incl things like monitor, OS etc?

Sorry 95thrifles, forgot about budget. Maybe about £700-800 max. NO monitor needed, will be using a Dell 27". Really just want a PC as powerful as that old one, hopefully I could spend less?

nice spec by RJC, but if youre not going to be doing any gaming then you can drop the gfx card down, and consequently the PSU too, use that on the CPU
Obviously case is personal preference so if you prefer you can get a better case, and if you plan to OC you should get a decent aftermarket cooler like the titan

or if you did want to go for an intel i7 set up

Oops something else I forgot (what am I like) I'd need to buy it pre built, Thanks for doing these specs RJC, 95thrifles.

Would watching DVDs not require a fairly good GFX card? I've no idea how my old ATI 1900xt compares with the recent low/mid range cards.

No you dont need a top gfx card, any recent one will do, if you want it prebuilt youll have to use the pc configurator thing then, and get as close to this as you can, or maybe give them a ring and see if theyll do exactly what you want, but that said its really not difficult to put together yourself

Hi 95thrifles :)
Will use that pre build configurator and try to make something resembling your Intel suggestion, thanks for helping me out.
